Unpaved Roads is a non-competitive gravel festival that takes place on dirt roads, trails and tarmac roads, reserved exclusively for members of Gravel Tour ASD (hereinafter also referred to as the event or the weekend).

Art. 1 — Registration

The event is open to people of any nationality who are at least 18 years old at the time of registration.

Art. 2 — Membership

Unpaved Roads is an event reserved exclusively for members of Gravel Tour ASD.

Anyone who is not a member of this sports association will become one when registering for the event.

The Organisation may, at any time and at its sole discretion, decide whether or not to accept a registration, or exclude a registered rider from the event if they could damage the image of the event.

Art. 3 — Medical certificate

All participants must submit to the organisation a valid medical certificate issued by a sports medicine centre or by a doctor.

The accepted certificates are (1 or 2):

  1. Certificate of fitness for sporting activity with particular and high cardiovascular effort (certificato di idoneità alla pratica di attività sportiva di particolare ed elevato impegno cardiovascolare).
  2. Medical certificate for competitive cycling (certificato medico agonistico per il ciclismo).

Note: the competitive medical certificate must be specific to cycling. We cannot accept medical certificates issued for other sports, such as triathlon, athletics, etc.

The medical certificate must expire after the date of the event you are taking part in and must be uploaded after registration.

The medical certificate must be uploaded on www.bikeadventureseries.com in the "My account" area (bikeadventureseries.com/my-account). The expiry date of the medical certificate must also be entered.

If the medical certificate does not comply, it will be rejected and the registered rider must submit a new compliant one within the set deadlines.

Anyone who does not comply with this requirement will not be considered properly registered and will not be entitled to a refund of the registration fee.

Each participant must declare, under Italian Presidential Decree (D.P.R.) no. 445 of 28 December 2000, that the documents they submit are truthful and correspond to the originals in their possession.

Art. 4 — Routes and tracks

Each Unpaved Roads stage has two routes: a long route and a short route. The routes run on dirt roads, single track and tarmac roads.

The organisation will provide all participants with the .gpx tracks of the routes to follow. Please remember, however, that at any time and for any reason related to safety, as well as to traffic and road conditions, including roadworks, detours, closures and any other unforeseeable situation that may be encountered along the track we have provided, everyone is free, at their own discretion, to leave the track and rejoin it as soon as these critical conditions have ended and safety is guaranteed again. You may therefore deviate from the track provided at any time and rejoin it later, using alternative roads at your own discretion, if conditions allow.

The organisation reserves the right to change the routes up to a few days before the event.

Art. 5 — Start and pack pick-up

The exact times and arrangements for picking up the event pack will be given in the event's digital guide.

Once they have collected their accreditation pack, participants may start the route as described in the digital guide.

Art. 6 — Compliance with the Highway Code

Unpaved Roads is a non-competitive gravel festival on dirt roads, trails and tarmac roads; the whole route is always open to traffic, and all participants must therefore comply with the Italian Highway Code (Codice della Strada). It is also mandatory to carry a kit to repair breakdowns and punctures.

Art. 7 — Nature of the event, warning

All participants must:

  • be physically prepared;
  • be able to ride on unpaved surfaces;
  • be adaptable;
  • have a good knowledge of GPS use and basic navigation;
  • in the spirit of gravel, any kind of external support is forbidden (except, of course, in emergencies).

Art. 8 — Mandatory kit

The organisation may, at any time and at its sole discretion, without any obligation to give further reasons, decide whether or not to accept anyone's registration.

Art. 11 — Substitution and withdrawal

With regard to the Event, it is not possible to request the substitution of a participant once registered. If a registered rider does not take part in the event, the participation fee will not be refunded under any circumstances and the event pack will not be shipped.

Art. 12 — Cancellation or postponement of the event

Cancellation — If, due to force majeure, such as pandemics or wars, the event cannot take place, the amount paid at registration will not be refunded, but the participation fee alone will be considered valid if a request is made to register for the following edition. The organisation will also be entitled to a contribution towards insurance costs of €14.00 for moving the registration to the following year. The request to register for the following year and the payment of the administration contribution must be made by the date set by the organisation following the cancellation of the event.

Postponement — In addition, due to force majeure or other serious reasons, such as, by way of example, pandemics or wars, which could jeopardise the preparation of the event or the participation of at least half of the registered riders, the Organisation reserves the right to change the location and/or the date of the event within the same calendar year. In this case the registration fee paid will be valid for the event on the rescheduled date, at no additional cost to registered riders. In this case it is not possible to move the registration to the following year's edition.

Art. 13 — Changes

In the event of new environmental and/or health circumstances and/or changes to the regulatory framework, the Organisation reserves the right, at any time, to make the resulting reasonable changes to the rules. The official website of the event, where these rules are published, is the only source of information about the event. Any different content in previous newsletters, in the press or on social media may therefore not be relied upon.

Art. 14 — Approval, consent, authorisation

By applying to take part in Unpaved Roads, each participant, at the time of registration:

  • Declares that they have read and approved these Rules and accept every part of them;
  • Takes responsibility for their own behaviour during and after the event;
  • Declares that they are in good physical condition and have given the organisation a valid medical certificate after undergoing a medical examination for cycling (medical certificate for competitive cycling, or certificate of fitness for sporting activity with particular and high cardiovascular effort), releasing the organisation from any liability for any damage they may suffer as a result of taking part in the event;
  • Declares that they are aware that the event they are taking part in is non-competitive and has no rankings;
  • Declares that they are aware that there is no medical or mechanical assistance service provided by the organisers of the cycling event called Unpaved Roads;
  • Declares that they are aware that there is no service to collect riders who withdraw, nor any obligation on the organisers to search for participants on the route;
  • Declares that they are aware that the organisation has no obligation to marshal the roads crossed by the participating cyclists;
  • Declares that they are aware that the participation fee will not be refunded under any circumstances;

It follows that the above-mentioned organising ASD bears no liability, and is in any case released from any liability, connected with the Unpaved Roads event. It is also released from any liability for events affecting the cyclist during Unpaved Roads, such as, for example, accidents, losing the route, physical problems, injuries, thefts, etc. It follows that the Unpaved Roads event is to be understood as a mere gathering, joined spontaneously and independently, of cycle tourists and amateur cyclists on a free and personal excursion; and that, purely out of hospitality and courtesy, without the requirements of art. 1174 and following of the Italian Civil Code, the above-mentioned organising ASD may organise one or more food stops for participants, subject to a voluntary contribution, which the cyclist undertakes to pay before taking on the Unpaved Roads event;
  • Therefore declares that the cyclist taking part in the Unpaved Roads event waives any legal action on any grounds against the above-mentioned organising ASD, acknowledging that it is a non-professional association acting for recreational purposes without the requirements of art. 1174 of the Italian Civil Code;

  • Grants the organisers the broadest consent to the use, in the ways permitted by law and including for profit, of any video or photographic image of them taken during the days of the event, giving the organisation the right to transfer such images to third parties. This authorisation to use their image is granted for an unlimited period and without territorial limits throughout the world, for use in publications and films of all kinds, including, purely by way of example and without limitation, promotional and/or advertising materials on any medium. The organisation may also transfer to third parties and to its institutional and commercial partners the rights of use provided for in this agreement. The organisation declines all liability, for itself and for its collaborators, for accidents or damage to people or property that may occur before, during and after the event or as a result of it.
